You probably find yourself indulging in more chocolate this holiday season. But what's the best kind for you to have without ruining your health and your waistline? That's determined by which chocolate contains the most flavonols, a type of heart-healthy antioxidant that's also found in grapes. Here's a look at the three main kinds of chocolate and their health benefits:
White Chocolate: A mix of cacao fat, sugar and flavorings, this type of chocolate contains no antioxidants, making it the weakest choice for any health benefits.
Milk Chocolate: Has some flavonols, but also more sugar, making it higher in calories.
Dark Chocolate: Contains the most flavonols, a type of antioxidant that's also found in grapes, making it the best kind if you want to indulge. Try to stick with 70 percent or higher cacao bars for the most benefits.
