Hei,

To:

Hey y’all!

We had an absolutely incredible call-in day yesterday. We collectively sent 1,900+ calls to DC council members, filled up voicemail boxes to capacity multiple times, and made some lines shut down altogether!

But our fight isn’t over. Remember, this Thursday (6/25) is the LAST chance for the Council to make changes to the proposed budget. We must take the next 24 hours to rally and demand that the DC Council defund MPD, get police out of our schools, and invest in our communities!

We’re doing another call-in day TODAY to make that happen! Be sure to use the call-in widget on defundmpd.org! Since we shut down some phone lines yesterday, we’ve updated our call service with alternative phone numbers for DC council members to ensure that our demands are heard. As stated before, we need all hands on deck to make this happen. Be sure to uplift this call-in day on your social networks using the graphic above and the attached graphic! Also, feel free to use our call in service as many times as you’d like! The more calls the better!

As a reminder: Just put in your phone number and our service, voiced by a BYP100 member, will call to walk you through how to be an advocate. We’ll provide a suggested script of what to say and connect you to all the council members with our priority targets coming up first. Once you finish one call, stay on the line and dial “*” to be connected to the next councilmember on the list if you wish to do so. We value your privacy, so know that your phone number will only be used to make this call.

Finally, remember that we still have time to submit more testimonies until 5PM EST on June 26th. Feel free to refer to our last email and/or our #DefundMPD Action Toolkit. for instructions.

Note: If you tried to call yesterday, and you experienced some technical issues, those were likely a result of the influx of calls on any given office. If it happens again today, you should probably wait about 10-15 minutes before you call again to give us time to update the list of numbers. Feel free to reply to this email with any questions!

*Important Dates*:

Wednesday, June 24 - Call-In Day (Round 2)

Thursday, June 25 - Council's final day to propose budget changes

Friday, June 26 @ 5PM EST - Last chance to submit testimony to Committee of the Whole

Thank you so much for your dedication and support to this campaign. We made an incredible impact yesterday. Let’s keep it up!
