A Balanced Career

Incorporating jQuery into SharePoint 2010 Webcast - Starts Tomorrow

On Wednesday, December 7th, you have the opportunity to participate in the SSWUG Webcast for jQuery in SharePoint 2010. What a great way to increase dynamic content display, and add interface enhancements. You'll also see client-side script development improvements over MOSS 2007, using jQuery and the new ECMA scripting capabilities.

A Balanced Career

I recently read a posting asking the question, “Do Senior Architects Value Building their Career over Leadership?”

I find the question confusing. Frankly, I don’t think you can separate the two values. IMHO, leadership and career development go hand in hand. They are not mutually exclusive. If you try to work as if they are, you will not be good at either one.

Technically, every person should be developing their career. You do that by enhancing both your technical and soft skills.

For example, I write these daily editorials as I study and evaluate technologies I haven't used, current and emerging. Granted, there are areas where I am quite ignorant, such as DB2, or Informix. However, having a good handle on SQL Syntax, I feel I can contribute to the needs of relational database engines.

Some Senior Architect individuals do find great success when working with larger audiences in the form of presenting or organizing conferences. They may even participate on standards committees, etc. These may be the kind of individuals who prompt the question asked, simply because they do not have a lot of time for questions, etc.

What do you think? Is there a balance to be struck here? Do you find it difficult to fit mentoring into you daily work alongside of the technical tasks given you? Share your thoughts by sending an Email to btaylor@sswug.org.

Cheers,

Ben

Om meg

Bildet mitt
