(اَلسَلامُ عَلَيْكُم وَرَحْمَةُ اَللهِ وَبَرَكاتُهُ)
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
Today's newsletter is all about gaining Allah's love.
Wisdom and Teaching Of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ):
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel, saying, 'Allah loves so and so, O Gabriel love him' So Gabriel would love him and then would make an announcement in the Heavens: 'Allah has loved so and-so therefore you should love him also.' So all the dwellers of the Heavens would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth."
Sahih al-Bukhari 7485
Of course if Allah loves you there’s nothing more you need.
You’ve won.
Reading this hadith spurred the idea to write about 7 things we can start doing today to begin receiving Allah’s love.
1. Be gentle.
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Allah is Gentle and loves gentleness, and He grants reward for it that He does not grant for harshness." Sunan Ibn Majah 3688
2. Doing extra deeds beyond what is necessary.
"My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him" Sahih al-Bukhari 6502
3. Spend in the way of Allah, treat the vessel Allah has gifted you well, and do good.
"And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good." (2:195)
4. Put Your Full Trust and Rely on Allah.
"So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah . Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him]."(3:159)
5. Purify your record, and ask for his forgiveness.
"Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves." (2:222)
6. Reading the Qur'an.
Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, "Read the Qur'an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection." Riyad as-Salihin 991
7. Allah loves As-Sabirun (i.e. To practice patience and to not lose faith)
"And how many a prophet [fought and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or submit. And Allah loves the steadfast." (3:146)

Interesting Thoughts From Books and Lectures:
Telling people that you're not doing anything can lead to disapproving looks.
When you have the wrong premise you can keep working on things to stay busy but not make any meaningful progress. Competing for the sake of competition can seem like good validation. others are doing it too so it must be right.
Sometimes it's worth taking a step back to survey the field. Inaction has its place and can be useful and in others times it can be destructive.
